Senior Software Engineer, Actions Platform

San Francisco or New YorkFull-time$205,000 – $260,000

About the role

Actions are how Pazau Agent does real work. It issues a refund in Stripe, rebooks a seat in Amadeus or updates an address in Salesforce. Each Action is a tool call into a customer's system, with typed inputs, spending limits, approval steps and a full audit record. The Actions Platform team builds the runtime that makes those calls safe, fast and debuggable at 140 million conversations a year.

The base salary range for this role is $205,000 – $260,000. Final offers depend on level and location, and every offer includes equity.

What you'll do

  • Build the Actions runtime: schema validation, idempotency, retries, timeouts and circuit breakers for calls into thousands of customer APIs
  • Ship the approval engine that lets a CX lead require sign-off above a refund threshold, and that records who approved what in the Trace
  • Extend the Action builder so that CX operations teams can connect a REST or GraphQL endpoint without writing code
  • Design sandbox and simulation modes so that customers can replay past conversations against a new Action before it goes live
  • Own services end to end, including on-call, with a 99.95% availability target

What you'll bring

  • 5+ years of backend engineering on distributed systems in production
  • Strong opinions, loosely held, about API design, idempotency and failure handling
  • Experience with TypeScript or Go, Postgres and a message queue such as Kafka or SQS
  • Care for the developer experience of the people who configure what you build

Nice to have

  • Built integrations or an integration platform (iPaaS, workflow engine or API gateway)
  • Experience with policy engines such as OPA or Cedar
  • Worked in fintech, travel or another domain where a duplicate API call costs real money

Benefits

  • Medical, dental and vision for you and your dependents, with 100% of premiums covered
  • Equity in Pazau, with a 10-year exercise window after you leave
  • 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave for every parent
  • 401(k) with a 4% match
  • $2,000 a year for learning, plus conference travel when you're speaking
  • Four weeks of paid time off, plus a company-wide week off at the end of December

Our interview process

  1. Recruiter call (30 min). We walk through the role, compensation and timeline, and answer your questions first.
  2. Hiring manager conversation (45 min). A conversation about work you're proud of and the problems this team owns.
  3. Paired technical session (2 hours). You'll extend a small Actions-style service with one of our engineers, using your own editor and AI tools if you like. No trick questions and no whiteboard algorithms.
  4. Final interviews (3–4 hours, virtual or on-site). Three or four conversations with the people you'd work with every day, including one cross-functional partner.
  5. Founder conversation and references. A 30-minute conversation with Amara or Lukas, then two references you choose.

Most candidates go from first call to offer in three to four weeks. You'll hear back from us within three business days after every stage, and every candidate who reaches final interviews gets written feedback.
